Sustainable sewing
Sew She Did maintains a commitment to sustainable sewing, which we achieve through lowering our resource consumption and reducing waste generation.
Here are just some of the sustainable choices we make:
Sew with intention. We are mindful and deliberate throughout the creative process to ensure our products serve a meaningful purpose.
Choose quality fabric and notions. We focus on the quality and longevity of our products.
Use remnants. We create our products using designer fabric bolt ends otherwise destined for landfill or destruction.
Efficient pattern placement. We minimise textile waste by utilising every bit of available space on the fabric.
Save offcuts. We repurpose or recycle every scrap of fabric.
Limit the use of paper patterns. We prefer to create our own reusable templates or work without patterns.
Reuse packaging. We send out orders in reused packaging sealed with paper tape and our tissue paper is acid-free, manufactured with premium recycled grades.
FSC certified business cards. Our chosen supplier aligns with our sustainability values and through compliance with FSC standards ensures that healthy forests are maintained, and the rights of forestry workers and forest dwellers are protected.
Use a parcel collect service. Royal Mail provides this service without putting more vans on the road or increasing the number of journeys, reducing emissions and congestion.
Support small business. We purchase our fabrics and haberdashery supplies from small independent retailers, supporting local suppliers and communities.
There is always more we can do as a business to mitigate our impact on the environment and we will continue to look for further opportunities to uphold our values.
